The University of Arizona is investigating three fraternities for allegedly forcing their members to drink alcohol, leading to alcohol poisoning in some cases; knowingly or unknowingly giving them drugs; and subjecting them to threatening and endangering behaviors, leading some to be burned by hot liquids.
Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Chi and Sigma Alpha Mu received letters from Whitney Mohr, a senior coordinator in UAs Dean of Students Office, in which she placed Phi Delta Theta on activities suspension and the other two on interim loss of recognition until the investigation is completed.
An activities suspension means the fraternity is prohibited from hosting, attending, participating, and sponsoring any organizational activities until the final disposition of this case; the only meetings allowed during this time are club business meetings. An interim loss of recognition means club business meetings are also not allowed.
